About
This website was created to be the first to combine all of the data about long fly swims in one place. The large existing databases like LongswimsDB do not include information about what strokes were used in their swims, so to satisfy my own curiosity and possibly some others, I created this site for butterfly swims.
This website synthesises all fly swims that are longer than 10 km and have some significance beyond training swims. This means in addition to being longer than 10 km, they must have some inherent significance such as but not limited to crossing a channel, being the length of a lake, or being done at an event. Since this site is a tertiary source, I have included a source for each swim added. These sources aren't the most reliable, and I'm hoping to update swims to add information and correct misinformation carried over from these sources as time goes on.
I'm also quite interested in the statistics, so I added some pages for records, a hall of fame, and my favourite: a map containing all of the completed significant fly swims. The map contains completed fly swims and some swims which are yet uncompleted with fly and hence are open for anyone to be the first finisher.
I designed the graphics, layout and features of this website myself, and my mum drew the logo. I then used a large language model to code everything to my specification and digitise the logo.
